PHPH purchased a new, state-of-the-art MyLab ultrasound machine in order to provide better diagnostic capabilities for your pets. Ultrasonography is an imaging technique used to visualize subcutaneous body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions.

As opposed to x-rays, which give you a two dimensional view, ultrasonography gives you three dimensional images allowing a more complete view of the internal organs.

Interpreting ultrasounds is not an easy task. The performance of ultrasonography is an art form and much experience is needed to become good at it. Our doctors have received training to help us learn the basics of ultrasonography and we continue to become more proficient with it. With ongoing experience and continuing education our skills continue to grow.

When we feel our skills may be insufficient for a particular problem, we will call in or refer to the experts if needed to perform the ultrasounds. These are doctors whose only job is to perform and interpret ultrasounds. We also have the means to send ultrasonographic images through the web to diagnostic imaging specialists when needed.
